NOTE: Power Walk is an OPEN event for the 2023 National Senior Games. Athletes who wish to compete in the Power Walk at the 2023 National Senior Games do NOT need to qualify at a 2022 state competition.

Event Details

  • Race walk and power walk are happening the same day as the running and jumping events.
  • See the athlete packet posted above for additional information about the competition.
  • The 2022 State Games will offer the following events:
    • 1500M Power Walk
    • 1500M Race Walk
  • Athletes may only compete in ONE type of walking event. Athletes must choose between Race OR Power Walk.
  • Races may be gender combined depending on number of registered athletes.
  • No canes, walkers, headphones, cell phones or water bottles allowed during the event.

Medals 

  • Medals will be available after final results are received at the conclusion of the event.
  • Athletes may compete in mixed age group flights. Medals are awarded by event, age and sex.
  • Athletes must be present to receive medals. They will not be mailed.

Qualifying for National Senior Games

Power Walk 

  • Power Walk is an OPEN event for the 2023 National Senior Games. Athletes who wish to compete in the Power Walk at the 2023 National Senior Games do NOT need to qualify at a 2022 state competition. 
  • Power Walk can be counted as a third sport for the 2023 National Senior Games.
  • Athletes who complete the 1500M Power Walk may also compete in the 5K Power Walk at Nationals.

Race Walk

  • All Race Walkers who finish first, second, third, and fourth or athletes meeting this sport’s NSGA minimum performance standards in competition at a 2022 NSGA qualifying games will qualify for the 2023 National Senior Games.

  • Athletes qualified in the 1500M may compete in both the 1500M and 5000M events at Nationals.

OSO Athlete Information

  • All details and events are subject to change based on registration numbers, weather conditions, venue availability, and other reasons. 
  • Withdrawals and no shows will negatively impact brackets and heats.  
  • Absolutely no day-of registration is permissible.  
  • ALL athletes competing in the Ohio Senior Olympics (OSO) are expected to read and comply with the:

General Rules for the State Games  

  • All rules, policies, and the code of conduct can be found on the OSO website: Ohio Senior Olympics Rules and Policies
  • Athletes should know and understand the rules specific to their sport. The OSO uses the rules book created by the National Senior Games Association for those sports that are offered at the National Senior Games. Rules for those events not offered at the National Senior Games are those of the official organizing body.
